What Yelp Can Tell Us About Gentrification and Race

Research by Sharon Zukin, Scarlett Lindeman, and Laurie Hurson was profiled by Richard Florida in CityLab. The piece describes their article in the Journal of Consumer Culture, “The Omnivore’s Neighborhood? Online Restaurant Reviews, Race, and Gentrification“. Through a framing analysis of Yelp reviews in two Brooklyn neighborhoods, Zukin, Lindeman and Hurson reveal the powerful role that social media may play in racialized processes of gentrification.
